The year is flying by for YIA members. The group filled the parish freezer with meals for Aid for Friends in October. In addition, they made refrigerator magnets for the shut-ins of our parish in November. The Boy Scouts delivered them along with poinsettia plants.
Unfortunately the January meeting was cancelled due to the blizzard of 2016 and the meeting’s service project was postponed until February. On February 22nd members assembled toiletry kits for the homeless. The kits were given to two local homeless shelters. YIA asked parishioners to donate small toiletry items to aid in this project. The response was overwhelming and they would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
Another project the group completed was a soup collection for “Souper Bowl Sunday”. Once again, our parish members were generous and all the cans have been added to help restock the parish pantry.
For those of you who may not be familiar with YIA, they meet the fourth Monday of each month from 6:15 to 7:45. Each meeting begins with prayer, scripture, and a short discussion. Then they play a game. The meeting concludes with a service project such as those described above. If members’ school requires service hours, participation in YIA projects will help satisfy that obligation. All 7th and 8th grade students from any school are invited to join. They hope to see you there!
