The Youth In Action (YIA) group is the current extension for PREP here at Assumption. Seventh and eighth grade students from the community, gather, learn and complete an activity on the 4th Monday of every month during the school year.
One of those efforts that the group completed this past fall, was cooking for Aid for Friends, an undertaking they have performed for well over 15 years. The adult leaders try to give the kids a meal they can put together and cook for their ages. The group undertakes this endeavor twice a year. The group gathered in the fall and the cooking commenced! Someone donated a huge can of tuna so this sparked the idea to make tuna casserole with egg noodles. A tasty recipe was prepared by the kids and a total of fifty meals were made–each meal also included stewed tomatoes, green beans and some delicious Turkey Sugar Cookies for the recipients to enjoy. But of course, the main ingredient for each meal was LOVE!
Youth in Action has a busy year planned, with lots of exciting activities. If you haven’t been to one of their meetings yet, please consider joining them in the New Year!
