A Caregiver Prayer
As I begin my day, I pause for a moment and reflect on the beauty of all that you have given to us. I offer thanksgiving for that beauty as well as the gifts of faith, family and friendship. I ask now for your help as I care for my loved one.
As a “caregiver,” the caring often finds me overwhelmed and filled with many unexpected and sometimes unwanted emotions. Sometimes situations have arisen in which I find myself happy, sad, confused and even angry. It is only with Your help that I am able to continue ministering with love and sensitivity.
Please hear my prayer and bestow upon me the gifts I need to care for my loved one until Your healing comes, or You call them home from their earthly journey. Watch over them and keep them free from pain, harm and loneliness. I offer this prayer to You with faith, live and praise.
If that prayer touches your soul and summarizes your life, then you need to join its author, Teresa McCausland, RN, as she facilitates the monthly Caregivers Support Group meeting at Assumption.
Teresa’s professional and personal experiences have fueled her admiration for those who are called to take care of others, as well as her desire to provide them with the practical and emotional resources to help them on their journey. She started this group–for parishioners and non-parishioners–to provide a safe place to exchange helpful hints, vent frustrations, have a few laughs, or shed some tears. Whether attendees are reflecting on their personal challenges or listening to an outside speaker on topics like elder law, they can get a respite from the stresses of care giving and are reminded that they are not alone.
The Caregivers group generally meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the rectory meeting room, but to confirm a specific date/location, be added to the email list, or request additional information, contact Teresa at TMccausland@stmaryhealthcare.org or 267-991-2003.
