The adventure of a lifetime…

On Thursday, March 12th Sister Diane Wolf returned to ABVM to share an overview of her recent trip to the Holy Land, which had been a farewell gift from our parishioners. She began her presentation by talking about the difference between being a tourist or a pilgrim and by leading attendees in prayer.

As part of a group consisting of herself, her own sister, 14 other pilgrims, and their very experienced guide, Father Greg Friedman OFM, Sister’s travels from January 12th-21st were jam-packed. Her Power Point presentation contained a small sampling of the many sites– sacred and secular; ancient and modern—that they visited. Sister also touched upon the region’s complicated political and cultural history and how the three major religions in the Holy Land, Jewish, Christian and Muslim view this area as holy.

The tour included visiting a few recently excavated sites of the remains of original buildings as well as many recently constructed (after 1800) churches including Basilica of the Annunciation, Church of St. Joseph, Church of the Annunciation, Church of the Primacy of Saint Peter, and Church of St. Anne. Archeologists have proven that Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is the site of the crucifixion and the tomb of Jesus. On the day of the group’s visit, Fr. Greg celebrated mass in a chapel there.

In addition, the excursion also provided the opportunity to experience the simple, natural landscape where Jesus and his disciples had lived 2000 years ago, like the Jordan River, the Dead Sea, Gethsemane, and the Garden of Olives, as well as the many towns Jesus visited along the coast of the Sea of Galilee.

Walking through and praying at, these many spiritual and Biblical venues provided a memorable journey for Sister Diane, and her slides provided an inspiration and a “gift” to those parishioners who were able to join her that evening. She hopes to present the Power Point again when groups may gather.
