Reunion time!

Oh, what a night! On September 29th, the Assumption BVM Church Hall (aka, the old cafeteria) was filled with the sounds of talking, laughing and music as alumni (including CYO and CCD), former teachers and coaches gathered together for the All Classes Reunion. Over 145 people from graduating classes from the 1950’s through the 2000’s had a fun night of catching up and reconnecting with old friends, classmates and teachers. Everyone also enjoyed dinner, dessert and dancing. In fact, Assumption’s own, Thomas Joseph, Class of ’81, was in the house to DJ and took everyone back to their old school days by spinning tunes that spanned the decades.

Balloons in the traditional school colors of green and white decorated the tables and hall which created a festive atmosphere. There were also tables of school memorabilia, including display boards that were filled with pictures taken of students, teachers and coaches over the years. Soft pretzels were on hand for anyone who wanted to relive the experience of eating an old favorite snack at ‘school’.

However, the big highlight of the evening for everyone attending was that it was a true ‘Back to School Night’. Fr. Mike was kind enough to open up the school, which had closed in 2012, so that everyone could take a stroll down memory lane. No one was disappointed! Everyone seemed to have such a wonderful time walking the halls and visiting their old classrooms, which most said, still looked exactly as they had remembered. People were reminiscing, sitting in desks, talking and telling stories about their good old days at Assumption.

Fr. Mike said that he is hoping to start a tradition of having reunions every few years which would include alumni, not just from Assumption BVM, but also from St. Bede the Venerable and Saint Katharine Drexel. As for that, I believe the Assumption BVM alumni would respond, “Wonderful, the more the merrier!”

If you are an Assumption BVM, St. Bede the Venerable or St. Katharine Drexel alumni and would like to be included in receiving information about upcoming reunions and events, please contact Daniel Clifton, Director of Advancement at Saint Katharine Drexel, at 215-357-4720 ext. 4 or email at:
