The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) concluded the year with closing prayer and awards ceremonies on Sunday and Monday, May 7th and 8th.
It’s easy to give statistics:
- 227 students in 24 classes with 49 volunteers (25 catechists, 18 adult aides and 6 teen helpers) assisting the Director of Religious Education and Administrative Assistant.
- 3 beautiful First Eucharist celebrations, with 42 PREP students and 10 SKD children receiving Jesus for the first time.
- 39 PREP students and 13 young people from SKD confirmed by Bishop Senior at a joyful parish Mass on April 29th.
What is more difficult to quantify are the SPIRIT and ENERGY that surge through the former school building on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings.
The word “catechesis” comes from a Greek work that means “echo,” and our volunteers work diligently and lovingly to echo the Good News that Jesus Christ is our Savior. They don’t only just teach the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, they also give witness to the presence and action of God in their lives, and try to help their students develop a lifelong relationship with Christ and with his Church.
Each week, we conclude our prayer time with the song: We Are Disciples, reminding the children, and ourselves: “Now we take up the call, to be a light for all…we are disciples.”
