Men Who Cook!

Although men did the cooking at this black tie optional event on April 26th, everyone happily did the eating. Organized by Father Kelly and made possible by the efforts of too many individual volunteers to mention, a sold-out crowd enjoyed a variety of culinary delights, a bar provided free of charge by the Buck Hotel, and dancing to the music of Carolyn and the Kirko Brothers. Attendees also were able to bid on more than 45 silent or live auction items, helping to raise more than $40,000 for ABVM.

In preparation for the evening, volunteers provided some much-needed updates to the hall that will benefit all parishioners—repainting the walls, replacing the tables and chairs, installing new window treatments, replacing the sound system, and changing the lights to LED. The Knights of Columbus provided many hours of assistance with painting and on the night of the event. Likewise, two youth groups were instrumental in ensuring this adult evening ran smoothly—The CYO Girls Basketball Team and the Boy Scouts. Thanks to their leaders, Collen Shwartz and John Quinlan.

Finally, congratulations to the winning chefs:

Kevin Kirk– Flying Chicken (appetizer)

Tom Hall– She Crab Soup (soup)

Mark Vellette– Sweet and Sour Short Ribs (main dish)

Les Ihlenfeldt– Irish Mousse (dessert)

Joe Bradley—People’s Choice Award

However, all the chefs, judges, volunteer workers, and people who donated auction items helped make it a “winning” night for everyone.
