Meet the newest addition to the Assumption staff…
Beginning this summer, you may have noticed a new face at Assumption BVM. He is Father Bins Jose Chethalil, a resident priest at ABVM who serves the faithful of the Indian Syro-Malabar Knanaya Catholic Church in the United States. (The Syro-Malabar Church is one of 24 Churches that comprise the Catholic Church. The largest is the Latin, or Roman, Catholic Church, although the term “Roman Catholic Church” is often used to refer to all twenty-four churches.)
Father Bins had been an associate pastor in the Syro-Malabar Knanaya Catholic Diocese in Chicago. He succeeds Father Renny, who left ABVM in August and serves as the vicar of Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.
Father Bins is the mission director of the St. John Neumann Knanaya Mission of Philadelphia, which serves the Syro-Malabar community from St. Albert the Great Church in Huntingdon Valley. He also serves as pastor of Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Church in Haddonfield, N.J. There, father celebrates mass in the Malayalam language on Friday evening and Sunday at 11:00, and then leaves for St. Albert to celebrate a 4:30 Sunday mass for the Syro-Malabar community.
Before coming to Chicago, Father Bins served in the Kottayam Diocese in Kerala, India—the seat of the Syro-Malabar church—where he was director of social services. Father Bins’ family lives in Houston, Texas
