A big Assumption welcome is extended to the newest member of our Holy Spirit Sisters’ community, Sr. Mary Winfrida Bonifasi Mrema.
Sr. Winfrida grew up in a Tanzanian village with her parents and siblings. She has one brother and eight sisters and she is the second oldest. She joined the Holy Spirit Sisters and professed in 1993. In 2002, she traveled to the United States and settled in Portland, OR. She eventually was transferred to Iowa in 2011 where she remained until just recently. Sr. Winfrida arrived at her new home here at Assumption BVM earlier this year.
Sr. Winfrida enjoys her time here in the United States but fondly recalls her life in Tanzania. She lovingly remembers her grandmother being a wonderful story teller. She recollects spending time with her and listening to her stories. One thing that Sr. Winfrida misses from her homeland is the traditional dish, “Kitalolo,” which was always prepared in a special pot. Although she is rarely able to enjoy that dish now, she has found a new favorite dish here in the United States—pizza—which she really enjoys!
Sr. Winfrida is currently working in the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In her free time she enjoys praying, gardening, reading, cleaning, sewing, cooking, doing laundry and helping the elderly. She enjoys watching Catholic movies, especially ones on the lives of saints, EWTN, the news, and Wheel of Fortune. While in the United States, Sr. Winfrida would love to travel and see the different shrines that our country has to offer.
Welcome Sister Winfrida!
